Counseling FAQs

What kind of therapy services do you offer?

We offer individual, couples, family, and group therapy sessions for children, adolescents, and adults. Our services are designed to address a wide range of mental health issues, including anxiety, depression, ADHD, trauma, and behavioral challenges.

How do I know if I or a family member needs therapy?

Therapy can be beneficial for anyone who is experiencing emotional distress, relationship problems, or life transitions. If you or a loved one is struggling to cope with daily activities, feeling overwhelmingly sad or anxious, or facing challenges in relationships, it might be helpful to consult with one of our therapists.

What can I expect during the first therapy session?

The first session is primarily an assessment, during which the therapist asks questions to understand your current concerns, mental health history, and overall well-being. This session helps build a therapeutic relationship and sets the groundwork for your treatment plan.

How long does each therapy session last?

Each therapy session typically lasts about 45 minutes. However, the duration can vary depending on the type of therapy and the therapist’s approach.

How are therapy sessions conducted?

We offer both in-person and online therapy sessions. In-person sessions are held in our office, providing a safe and confidential space. Online sessions are conducted via secure video conferencing tools to ensure privacy and convenience.

How much does therapy cost? Do you accept insurance?

The cost per session varies depending on the type of therapy and the therapist. We are out-of-network with most insurance companies but we accept assignment for some other

insurance companies. We know that navigating this process can be difficult so we try to make it as easy as possible by submitting claims on your behalf. Depending on your current health insurance provider or employee benefit plan, it is possible for services to be covered in full or in part. Please contact your insurance provider to verify how your plan compensates you for psychotherapy services. We also offer a sliding scale fee through our clinical internship program.

How do I choose the right therapist?

It's important to work with a therapist who you feel comfortable with and who has experience relevant to your needs. Our staff includes therapists with diverse specializations, and we can help match you with a therapist who suits your preferences and therapeutic goals.

What is your confidentiality policy?

We adhere strictly to confidentiality laws and ethical guidelines to protect your privacy. Information shared in therapy sessions will not be disclosed without your written consent, except in cases as required by law (e.g., when there is a risk of harm).

How often should I attend therapy sessions?

The frequency of sessions depends on your unique needs and goals. Some clients benefit from weekly sessions, while others may attend bi-weekly or monthly. Your therapist will work with you to determine the best schedule.

How can I make an appointment?

You can schedule an appointment by calling our office or filling out the contact form on our website. Our administrative staff will assist you in finding a convenient time for your session.

Understanding Your Good Faith Estimate

What is a Good Faith Estimate?

Starting January 1, 2022, federal law (the No Surprises Act) requires all healthcare providers to give uninsured and self-pay clients a written estimate of expected costs before services begin. At Long Island Behavioral Health, transparency is part of how we care for you.

Who Receives a Good Faith Estimate?

You are entitled to a GFE if you are uninsured or choosing not to use insurance (self-pay).

If you are using insurance, your insurer will provide cost estimates through your Explanation of Benefits (EOB). Feel free to call us with any billing questions.

What Does It Include?

  • The services we expect to provide
  • The expected cost per session based on our current rates
  • An estimated total based on your anticipated course of treatment

Note: The GFE is our best estimate, not a contract or guarantee of a fixed number of sessions. Your therapist will work with you to adjust your treatment plan as your needs evolve.

 Current Session Rates

ServiceRate
Individual Psychotherapy$85 – $195 per session
Group Therapy$75 per person, per session

Your Rights Under the No Surprises Act
